Maureen: I am so sorry to hear about your son. I know their is no greater pain than a parent to lose a child. I watched my mother go through this last week when we lost your baby brother. I pray the Lord will keep his arms around you and give you peace and comfort.

I have known David since the family moved to Ozark, one year after we did. David went to school with our children and was involved in scouting with our son. I admired his career serving our nation. As he became ill, I hurt for him and for his family. At the same time we were having a cancer scare and treatment in our family, our daughter who was in the same class with David in High School. Fortunately for us, our daughter responded to treatment. So as we watched David's serious illness, we kept hoping his treatment would be a success, too. We're sad for his family. But our faith tells us that since we all have to leave this earth through death, we can be thankful that David is no longer suffering. That doesn't help the sorrow that fills the hearts of those who will miss him terribly, but it is helpful to think of how free and happy David is on the other side of the veil.
