Granville Beasley

Granville Beasley, age 89 of Mount Vernon, Missouri, passed away Thursday, December 5, 2013. He was born June 30, 1924 in Ozark County the son of Edgar and Nettie (Loftis) Beasley.He attended and graduated from Ava High School in 1942 and was a member of the school boxing club. He also showed Jersey cattle and earned numerous awards which earned him a Future Farmers of America Degree and State Farmer for Missouri. After graduation, he attended the United States Naval Training and Distribution Center at Camp Wallace in Galveston, Texas. During World War II, he proudly served his country from 1944 to 1946 as a member of the United States Navy. He served as a motor machinists mate and at Guantanamo Bay he trained for beach landings and delivering Marines to the shorelines. He was honorably discharged March 8, 1946.Granville was the owner of Beasley Painting Company in Lenexa, Kansas until his retirement. He was baptized May 21, 1961 as a member of the Lenexa Methodist Church. Granville had a varied interest in his hobbies, he enjoyed telling stories and jokes and clog dancing. He was an avid sports fan, a lifetime ticketholder with the Kansas City Chiefs since 1963 and favored the Saint Louis Cardinals. He was a member of the NRA and once shot two large turkeys with one shot. Granville is survived by two sons Max and Richard Beasley and a daughter Marla Freeman; seven grandchildren, five great- grandchildren and several other caring relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Theo Hobbs.Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 11, 2013 in Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ozark.
