David Allen Ashlock, age 51, of Sparta, Missouri passed away January 18, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. David was born April 16, 1964 in Wahiawa, Hawaii the son of Jesse and Maureen ( Kelly) Ashlock. He was united in marriage to Aimee Damron on June 20, 2015. The son of a Navy man, David lived in Hawaii, Alaska, California and Scotland as a child. He started school in Scotland and became a very good bowler at the age of 12 while living in Alaska. Upon his dad’s retirement, the family bought a mini motor home and toured the United States for a year, settling in Nixa, Missouri in 1979. He graduated from Ozark High School in 1983. At the age of 20, David joined the Navy where he served for 20 years as a jet engine mechanic. During his service, he was stationed in San Diego, China Lake and Virginia Beach. He traveled around the world on a shakedown cruise on the newly commissioned carrier, The USS John C. Stennis. During Desert Storm, he went to Australia on the USS Nimitz. He was also stationed on the USS Coral Sea. David was Honorably Discharged in 2004, settling in Sparta, Missouri near his parents and brother. David loved his house and the large yard. Unlike most people, he enjoyed mowing his three acres after living for twenty years without a yard. He spent several hours on the mower and working in the shop that his dad had built on adjacent land. He found more happiness when he met his future wife Aimee. In 2015 they were married and David became both a husband and stepfather. Together, David and Aimee enjoyed working in the flower beds around the house and taking care of their horses. David is survived by his wife Aimee Ashlock; step-children Adam and Dawn McGinnis, parents Jesse and Maureen Ashlock; brother Mickey Ashlock and his wife Rhonda; nephews Austin and Brandon Ashlock; several aunts, uncles and cousins. David was preceded in death by his grandparents John and Olive Kelly and grandfather Kenneth Ashlock. Funeral services for David will be 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, Missouri. The United States Navy Honor Guard will officiate and provide full military honors. Visitation will be 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. Monday, January 25, 2016 in Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ozark.
